ADVOCACY & JUSTICE
For generations, the ancestral authorities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta have safeguarded the energetic heart of the world. Yet their voices have often been overlooked in political, legal, and administrative decisions that directly affect their land, their autonomy, and the spiritual balance of the Earth.
The Advocacy & Justice pillar exists to support their right to be heard, respected, and included—and to help restore what has been lost through centuries of displacement, fragmentation, and disregard.
This work is rooted in equilibrium: returning what is rightful, protecting what remains, and supporting the elders in reclaiming their place as guardians of the Earth.
Our Focus
1 / Restoring What Was Taken
The ancestral territory of the Sierra Nevada has been drastically reduced over time. The Mamos and Sagas have long expressed the need to recover land that was removed from their guardianship—land that is essential to maintaining planetary balance.
While full restitution remains a monumental task, our long-term vision includes:
-
Supporting pathways to recover key sacred sites
-
Exploring legal and diplomatic avenues for land return
-
Laying the groundwork for future alliances with lawyers, advocates, and institutions willing to help
We begin with small steps, anchored in integrity, clarity, and truth.
2 / Ensuring the Elders Have a Voice in Government
Recently, the Mamos and Sagas held a multi-week peaceful presence outside the government building in Valledupar to advocate for representation—specifically, for one of their own to sit at the governmental table.
This reflects a deeper need:
-
To be heard in decisions affecting their land
-
To be respected as the original authorities
-
To be included in shaping policies that impact the Sierra Nevada and its ecosystem
Our role is to support their efforts—not to lead them, replace them, or speak for them, but to help create the conditions for their rightful participation.
3 / Protecting Indigenous Rights and Cultural Sovereignty
We stand in solidarity with ancestral custodians who have safeguarded the Earth for millennia.
Our support includes:
-
Increasing visibility and awareness
-
Supporting peaceful, dignified advocacy
-
Supporting documentation, communication, and translation
-
Helping the elders connect with organizations, institutions, and individuals aligned with their mission
OUR APPROACH
We follow four guiding principles:
-
Integrity — Acting without imposing, projecting, or assuming authority
-
Reciprocity — Giving the support we can while honouring their leadership
-
Respect — Upholding the autonomy and sovereignty of the Mamos, Sagas, and their communities
-
Non-interference — Supporting their voice, not replacing it
WHY THIS MATTERS
Because justice, in the ancestral sense, means restoring balance:
Balance between people and land.
Balance between tradition and governance.
Balance between what was lost and what can be restored.
Balance between Earth and humanity.
When the original guardians are respected, the Earth is protected.
When they are excluded, everyone suffers.
